Behavioral interview questions: customer centricity

A set of behavioral questions designed to assess how well a candidate understands and responds to the needs of internal or external customers, identifies their pain points, and builds long-term trust and relationships.

  • Tell us about a time when a customer was extremely dissatisfied with a product or service. How did you resolve the issue, and were you able to preserve the relationship?
  • Give an example of when you had to turn down a customer’s request or demand. How did you explain your decision without damaging their trust or loyalty?
  • Tell us about a time when you exceeded a customer’s expectations and created a memorable customer experience. What exactly did you do?
  • Describe a situation when a customer’s requirements conflicted with your company’s internal priorities or capabilities. How did you find the right balance?
  • Tell us how you have collected and used customer feedback to improve your day-to-day work.
  • Describe a situation when you had to work with a difficult or demanding customer who kept changing the requirements or scope.
  • Tell us about a time when you took personal ownership of resolving a customer issue caused by another department.
  • Describe a situation when you identified an underlying customer need that the customer had not recognized themselves and proposed a solution.
  • Give an example of when you managed to win back a customer who had decided to switch to a competitor.
  • Tell us about a time when you had to train a customer to use a complex product or service.
  • Describe a situation when you analyzed complaints from multiple customers and initiated systematic changes to improve the product.
